Drilling exhaust

Post by adair1965 » Mon Jan 18, 2016 12:58 pm

Has anyone ever drilled holes in their exhaust before? I've seen video's of it done on VTX's on Youtube.

Yep drilled mine. I think it's called a Clayton Root mod (could be wrong). Makes the sound a little throatier without boring holes through your ear drums. I like the mod.

How many holes did you drill? Any issues with backfires?

We did my bro-inlaw`s 1300 a couple of years ago.
Drilled 2 -1/2in. in each muffler, little rumbley, not bad.
Went to 3 holes , sounded real nice when you pinned the throttle.
Had another bud we did 5 in his mufflers, sounded the same as bro`s bike?
Start with a couple, ride it, then make up yer mind.
Nice thing about 1/2 holes, you can thread them and put in plugs if too noisey !
No back-firing on either bike.

I think I did five per pipe. I'd have to go look. Now where did I leave that thing?
Hammer's got the right idea, but you'll end up putting five. I think mine are drilled 7/16.
You shouldn't have any backfire. If you do it won't be from this mod. Take out the pair valves if you have backfiring. :)

Found it. It was in the garage....go figure.
I did six holes. I think I started with six holes and just kept drilling them bigger till I got up to 7/16. Have fun. :)

Did 5. Sounds like an angry machine. I [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES] the whole time I'm on it while I'm on it. ;)
