New Denver Trivia

One of the most under-rated attributes to life in New Denver is the lack of biting insects. People here leave doors and windows open in the summer (without screens). People sit out at picnic tables, actually picnicing at all times of day. Couples stroll down 6th Avenue in the evening with bare arms. You can actually enjoy yourself in the out-of-doors, after the sun goes down, even out on the lawn. No itchy bites.

You may scoff at the significance of the above statement. If you do, you are very likely not a Canadian. Or, if you are a Canadian, you haven't seen much of your country. Biting insects are the stuff of legend in this country, and any self-respecting Canadian has a few hyperbolic mosquito stories up his or her sleeve. But don't come to New Denver for any of those stories. Because the surrounding terrain is so steep, there is no stagnant water for the little buggers to breed in, so we count our mosquitos here on one hand.

Ok...Atom Aunt and I are booked...got a double room (26) so we'll be hooking up with another couple I guess. Wink Cost- approx $80 per night less whatever discount we end up with. We'll be there the night of the 26th...leaving on the 30th. Anybody interested in the run through Lillouette, Whistler, Vancouver (Duffy Lake road), after the meet, let me know...could take that route back too. Chumbly- 8)

OK, so I have just begun to plot in the details for the two of us (Peggy and I), and from Ottawa it looks like it will be 2769 miles. The first route that popped out of my GPS unit was through the US, crossing at Sarnia, passing the Second City, St Paul, Billings, and then north on 41/31 to Nelson and then on to the VTX centre of the world. That would allow a hook up with the lower Ontario group for a "fleet" run to BC.

I haven't tried to look at a Canadian route but maybe others have some thoughts on this.

Did we ever come up with some options on shipping the bikes (at least one way)??? There was some discussion about this at Wasaga. I wouldn't mind shipping my bike out there and then taking a very scenic route back (like the US path). That way I will still feel like taking some long runs through the mountains.

Yes I must admit that there is kind of a nice appeal to have a bunch of X's shooting across to the left coast. According to my GPS, it would seem to take around 40 hrs to make the journey (from Ottawa). That is based upon the assumption that you are doing around 65-70 mph and that the dash across is mostly on the Interstate. I am finding that on my 1300 if I go fastter than 70 MPH, the old gas consumption really rises, making the stops more frequent...

Lots of time left though to "fine tune" things and get the groups organized. Any others want to respond to the part about one-way shipping of the bikes?
